Use this Formula to Get Clients through Speaking
When I went to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the founder, Joshua Rosenthal encouraged us to give talks as a way to get clients.
I was determined to make my health coaching practice a success, so I was good pupil and followed his instructions.
Speaking (both in-person and virtually in teleseminars) was one of the primary strategies I used to build my health coaching business.
It is truly the one of the quickest and most effective ways to enroll private coaching clients AND fill your group programs (such as cleanses and detoxes).
Want to insure that your speaking generate clients and revenue?
Use this 4-Step Formula to Get Clients through Speaking
1. Choose the right venue
If you’re offering a live in-person talk, your success starts with choosing the right venue. When you think about what types of places you would like to speak, think about who you want to attract.
Getting the right people to your talk is the first step towards making this a success.
If you are trying to attract moms, you could target PTA groups or moms’ groups. If you are trying to attract professional women, you could target professional women’s groups or corporations. If you target athletes, you might target running groups like Team In Training.
Look for venues that draw an audience, or better yet, groups with regular meetings.
Note: If you are offering a teleseminar, you won’t need to find a venue, but you can get more people on your teleseminar by promoting it through groups and colleagues who serve the audience you’d like to attract.
2. Choose your topic carefully
When choosing your topic, you want to think about three things:
- What do your ideal clients desperately want to know more about? This is important because even if your talk or teleseminar is free, people are busy and will only take time out of their busy schedules if you’re speaking about something that they desperately want to know more about.
- What are your areas of expertise?
If you choose a topic that you are knowledgeable and passionate about, you will enjoy speaking and your audience is going to be drawn to you. - What topic relates to the offer you want to make at the end?
For example, if you want to promote a sugar detox, then your talk might be about sugar cravings.
3. Make a clear offer
One of the biggest mistakes you can make, and I definitely made this one when I was starting out, is ending the talk without making a clear offer.
The people attending your talk care about the topic you spoke about. They are people who you can help and who likely want your help. Through speaking, you’ve built a relationship with the attendees. They now see you as a trusted expert.
You might think that people who are interested in working with you will take the initiative to reach out to you, but this often isn’t the case. Making an invitation gives them permission to take the next step with you.
Not sure what to offer? If you want more private clients, your offer can be a strategy/breakthrough session with you. If you are launching a group program, such as a cleanse or detox, you can invite attendees into the program.
Bonus Tip: Get people to take action by making your offer time sensitive.
4. Follow-up
Keep the momentum going after the talk by following up with the attendees.
If you are leading an in-person talk, be sure to bring a sign-in sheet and ask for people’s names, phone numbers, and email addresses. This way you’ll be able to follow-up after the event.
If you’re offering a teleseminar, you’ll want to collect attendees’ names and email addresses on your registration page. Click here for an example of a registration page.
After the event, email attendees about the offer.
If you are promoting a strategy/breakthrough session, I recommend that you send two follow-up emails and include a link to your online calendar. (I highly recommend setting up a calendar on TimeTrade.com.)
If you are promoting a group program, such as a cleanse or detox, I recommend you send a series of 5-6 promotional emails.
